They will follow the fish

The i-Rose company in cooperation with the Fishery Institute of Slovenia implements a fish tracking project

i-Rose, a software development company from Laško, has moved from its innovative tracking activities in the brewing industry to tracking printed editions last year, and the latest project, which is being carried out together with the Fisheries Institute, is a fish population tracking project. “We are now preparing the infrastructure and the project should be operational in spring,” says Primož Kristan, Assistant Director of i-Rose.

Fish with chips and antennas
The project, set up in collaboration with the Fisheries Institute, aims to find out exactly how fish successfully overcome the various obstacles we put in the way of rivers. In this particular case, they will monitor fish as they pass through a fishway at the Blanca hydroelectric power plant on the Sava River. “The project also aims to identify potential vulnerabilities in the fishway and provide credible data that will serve as a basis for improving the situation.” Such tracking should also help to ensure smooth passage for as many different species of fish of all ages as possible at this hydropower plant (and elsewhere). In the beginning, they will mainly follow sprats, and possibly also morays.
